The Illuminatus! Trilogy | Book Cover Design
Nothing is more disorienting than when your belief system is confronted with new ideas and experiences that force you to reevaluate what you’ve believed to be true. Writers Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson wrote The Illuminatus! Trilogy in an effort to expose readers to radically unique ideas, thoughts, and words to challenge readers to question their own existing belief system. The trilogy is truly an exercise in cognitive dissonance. Everything introduced in the series is later derided in some way, forcing the reader to form their own interpretation of what is true and what is false. The use of manually distorted typography invokes the chaos and discomfort the reader experiences throughout the entire trilogy. The colors, or lack thereof, used are meant to mimic the human tendency to develop and cling to black and white interpretations of reality that often keep them further from the truth.
